What is time? Time is the little things that only you can notice; that one falling leaf in autumn, the sunshine in your room on a late Sunday morning, the smell of flowers on a spring day. Advisors say to, “stop and smell the roses” to which of course I agree with but I have to question them; if you have to stop to smell them, aren’t you wasting your time? Shouldn’t things like that just be naturally taken in? The little things in life will be taken in when the individual person has time to take it in. Time should be valued for these little moments we receive because they are so precious and so needed in times of sorrow which just happens to be when it is hardest to find.
Gaarder
"Throughout the entire history of philosophy, philosophers have sought to discover what man is- or what human nature is. But Sartre believed that man had no such eternal 'nature' to fall back on. Is is therefore useless to search for the meaning of life in general" Gaarder 451
"One of the Baroque period's favorite sayings was the Latin expression 'carpe diem'- 'seize the day.' Another Latin expression that was widely quoted was 'memento mori which means 'remember that you must die.'" Gaarder 224
To Everything There is a Season
To everything there is a season
A time for every purpose under Heaven
A time to be born
and a time to die
A time to plant
and a time to pluck what is planted
A time to kill
and a time to heal
A time to break down
and a time to build up
A time to cast away stones
and a time to gather stones
A time to embrace
and a time to refrain from embracing
A time to gain
and a time to lose
A time to keep
and a time to cast away
A time to tear
and a time to sew
A time to keep silence
and a time to speak
A time of love
and a time of hate
A time of war
and a time of peace
Lightman
“time is a circle, bending back on itself. The world repeats itself, precisely, endlessly” Lightman 6
“In the world in which time is a circle, every handshake, every kiss, every birth, every word, will be repeated precisely. So too every moment that two friends stop becoming friends, every time that a family is broken because of money, every vicious remark in an argument between spouses, every opportunity denied because of a superior’s jealousy, every promise not kept” Lightman 8
“Time is like a flow of water occasionally displaced by a bit of debris, a passing breeze. Now and then, some cosmic disturbance will cause a rivulet of time to turn away from the mainstream, to make connection backstream” Lightman 10
“In time, there are an infinity of worlds” Lightman 17
“In this world, there are two times. There is mechanical time and there is body time. The first is as rigid and metallic as a massive pendulum of iron that swings back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. The second squirms and wriggles like a bluefish in a bay. The first is unyielding, predetermined. The second makes upp its mind as it goes along” Lightman 18
“There the two times meet, desperation. Where the two times go their separate ways, contentment” Lightman 21
“Time flows more slowly farther from the center of the Earth” Lightman 22
“In time, people have forgotten the reason why higher is better. Nonetheless, they continue to live in the mountians, to avoid sunken regions as much as they can, to teach their children to shun other children from low elevations” Lightman 24
“Time is visible in all places” Lightman 25
“Time paces forward with exquisite regularity, at precisely the same velocity in every corner of space. Time is an infinite ruler. Time is absolute” Lightman 26
“Time does not pass, but little happens. Just as little happens from year to year, little happens from month to month, day to day. If time and the passage of events are the same, then time moves barely at all. If time and events are not the same, then it is only people who barely move” Lightman 36
“No one is happy, whether stuck in a time of pain or of joy. The tragedy of this world is that everyone is alone” Lightman 49
“The passage of time brings increasing order. Order is the law of nature, the universal trend, the cosmic direction. If time is an arrow, that arrow points toward order. The future is pattern, organization, union, intensification; the past, randomness, confusion, disintegration, dissipation” Lightman 51
“There is a place where time stands still” Lightman 53
“Time travels outward in concentric circles—at rest at the enter, slowly picking up speed at greater diameters” Lightman 54
“Some say it is best not to go near the center of time. Life isa vessel of sadness, but it is noble to live life, and without time there is no life” Lightman 56
“Imagine a world in which there is not time. Only images” Lightman 57
“With time, each person’s Book of Life thickens until it cannot be read in its entirety” Lightman 63

What is time? Time is the important moments- the memories that will be with you for forever. What importance would time have if it weren’t for the memories it allows you to create? The special birthdays, anniversaries, deaths and births- some happy, some sad, but no matter the emotion attached to them memories are proof of time spent right. The people with better memories have a better hold on their time and the importance of making the most of it. The people that let memories fall to the wayside, whether happy or sad, are the people that don’t see time as an important entity to life. Time is the memories
More Lightman
“Time flows not evenly but fitfully and, as consequence; people receive fitful glimpses of the future” Lightman 66
“Time passes more slowly for people in motion. Thus everyone travels at high velocity to gain time” Lightman 70
“Time is a sense, like sight or like taste, a sequence of episodes may be quick or may be slow, dim or intense, salty or sweet, casual or without cause, orderly or random, depending on the prior history of the viewer” Lightman 89
“Over time, some have determined that the only way to live is to die. In death, a man or a woman is free of the weight of the past. These few souls, with their dear relatives looking on, dive into Lake Constance or hurl themselves from Monte Lema, ending their infinite lives” Lightman 94
“Time is not a quantity but a quality” Lightman 95
“Time cannot be measured” Lightman 97
“Time is a visible dimension” Lightman 103
“Time is not continuous.. time is a stretch of nerve fibers: seemingly continuous from a distance but disjointed close up, with microscopic gaps between fibers” Lightman 108
“The segments of time fit together almost perfectly, but not quite perfectly Lightman” 109
“Time is a local phenomenon. Two clocks close together tick at nearly the same rate. But clocks separated by distance tick at different rates, the farther apart the more out of step” Lightman 120
“Time is not fluid, parting to make way for events” Lightman 125

What is time? Time is the years, months, days, hours, seconds that make up a life. Time is everything and anything that can affect the course of a person’s being. It makes up every part of a person’s life and in some ways is the most important part of a person’s life. Instead of making things important by giving them time to exist, the things that happen in life give time importance by giving time a reason to exist. There is so much individual time in life but it is what happens what you put all of those moments together at the end of it all that makes time worthwhile. Without time there would be no life and without life, time would be unimportant, it would just exist on its own not really having a purpose.
Five For Fighting
I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I'm 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind
I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15 I'm all right with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on...
I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there's still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day's a new day...
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Rilke
"Don't think that the great love which was once granted to you, when you were a boy, has been lost; how can you know whether vast and generous wishes didn't ripen in you at that time, and purposes by which you are living today?" Rilke 79
"keep growing, silently and earnestly, though your whole development; you couldn't disturb it any more violently than by looking inside and waiting for outside answers to questions that only your innermost feeling, in your quietest hour, can perhaps answer" Rilke 11

I know that throughout my blog I went back and forth about my own definition of time, but there was a purpose to my madness. Time is indefinable, it is infinite and it is indispensible. Time is completely individual and could never have a set meaning because it has completely different importance’s to different people. The point of my blog is to show the different aspects of time and to give ideas of what time could mean to you. I am not saying though that it is necessary to have a definition because not only does it change from person to person, but the definition of time can change throughout a person’s life.
